(Canberra, 27 November 2018) Australian university students who complete their NCP study in the Indo-Pacific can continue to deepen their understanding of the region and enhance their professional skills and networks, through a new partnership between Asialink Business and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

As part of this collaboration, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Senator the Hon Marise Payne, formally congratulated 43 incoming Alumni Ambassadors, representing all states and territories, who will be supported by Asialink Business to help drive awareness of the NCP and the value of Indo-Pacific study and work.

The Minister said: “After completing their experience in the region, scholars join a vibrant NCP alumni community that will keep them connected to each other and the Indo-Pacific. The NCP Alumni Program is implemented in partnership with Asialink Business. We appreciate the efforts of the NCP Alumni Ambassadors – including our 43 new Alumni Ambassadors – who promote the program in their universities and communities.”

Under the new partnership, DFAT and Asialink Business are designing and delivering targeted professional development, networking opportunities and communications, to support the alumni as they progress in their lives and careers and become successful advocates for Australia’s interests abroad.

CEO of Asialink Business, and NCP Business Champion, Mukund Narayanamurti says: “Through this exciting partnership, we are supporting the next generation of the workforce, to ensure they continue to build their Indo-Pacific capabilities, connections, knowledge and networks.

“By collaborating with business, industry, government and the education sector, we are growing a community of talented NCP Alumni who can become Australia’s future leaders and ‘soft power’ champions in the region.”

Opportunities are available to all NCP scholarship and mobility grant recipients. Asialink Business Director of Capability Development, Donna Webster, says a key feature of the initiative is its focus on empowering alumni to be a driving force, including through the prestigious NCP Alumni Ambassador Program: “We are particularly excited to be working with the Alumni Ambassadors. These future leaders are helping to connect alumni to each other, the NCP and the Indo-Pacific, as we work together to build a vibrant, diverse and sustainable alumni community.”

By 2019, the NCP Alumni will number more than 40,000 young Australians with experience of living, studying and working in the Indo-Pacific region. Asialink Business’ support for the program builds on its successful experience in designing and delivering the Bennelong Pre-Departure Training for NCP mobility students.
