Navigating Asia: Building capabilities and creating impact

27 January 2023: Social entrepreneur Elizabeth McClean, KPMG Associate Director Daniel Ginger, and educator Sabrina Li, are just three of the 1,050 change-making alumni of the Asialink Leaders Program. Each share their experiences of how the Asialink Leaders Program has helped them to pursue their passions, make a positive impact in their respective fields, and be better equipped to navigate the complexities of engaging with Asian markets.

Elizabeth McClean, the founder of social enterprise start-up DJAMU, had made it her mission to simultaneously reduce plastic pollution and poverty in Indonesia through innovative engagement with Jakarta’s trash picker community. She joined the 2022 Asialink Leaders Program after living in Indonesia for 8 years and shares how the program has validated and energised her work. Elizabeth now pursues her vision of DJAMU becoming a bridge for strong cross-cultural links between Australia and Indonesia, establishing partnerships and positive outcomes for both countries.

Daniel Ginger, Associate Director at KPMG Australia, joined the Asialink Leaders Program to aid him in his mission to make understanding global politics more accessible for businesses. He shares how the program has enhanced his abilities, broadened his understanding, and expanded his professional network. The program has helped him to see how politics and diplomacy play out on the ground and has been instrumental in developing his understanding of Asian affairs.

Sabrina Li, International Students Coordinator at St Margaret’s and Berwick Grammar School and winner of the Education Sector Category at the 2022, 40 under 40, has valued having the opportunity to engage with and learn from so many incredible leaders and experts from different industries through her participation in the Asialink Leaders Program. She shares how, through engaging with the leaders cohort and industry experts throughout the program, she has broadened her understanding of the opportunities and avenues to contribute to her students' growth as future leaders.
